Their premium security solution is called VIPRE Internet Security Pro and, besides the usual security layers and modules, it also bundles some additional tools that should provide more value for your money
InternetVIPRE Internet Security Pro scans and filters all the internet traffic from your computer and that means that you will be protected in any web browser you like to use.
Ease of use & configurationVIPRE Internet Security Pro offers a simple user interface, although it's a very ugly one. It's a fixed size window with very few sections, options and buttons on it.
FirewallThe firewall module offered by VIPRE Internet Security Pro is not the best in the world but it's also not the worst. It's better than the default Windows Firewall, but we feel it could be improved.
Antivirus and antispyware TestAs usual, we started our antivirus and antispyware tests by checking how VIPRE Internet Security Pro protects you when online, while surfing the web. For starters, you should know that this security suite will protect you no matter what web browser you like using, because it scans and filters all the internet traffic that goes on your computer. We've used the four most popular web browsers Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge and Opera - to try to navigate a series of dangerous websites. The unfortunate news is that VIPRE Internet Security Pro didn't manage to stop us from visiting all the websites we've checked.
We ran our final antivirus test: we took our test computer, we installed Windows 10 on it, and then we infected it with lots of viruses. Then, we asked VIPRE Internet Security Pro to install and clean our unresponsive machine. Fortunately, the security suite managed to do all that without a glitch in the process. At the end, the computer was clean and usable again.
Here's an interesting fact to consider about VIPRE Internet Security Pro: although the antivirus engine is pretty good at detecting and removing malware, it took it about 39 minutes on average to run a full scan of our 110GB system partition with 40GB of data on it. That's a lot!
To get a second opinion, we also looked at what independent security organisations had to say about VIPRE Internet Security Pro :
AV-TEST gave VIPRE a score of 5 points out of 6 for protection, 4.5 points for performance and the maximum score of 6 points out of 6 for usability. We definitely don't agree with the usability score. The user interface of this products really needs a good user experience designer.
AV-Comparatives awarded VIPRE's antivirus with their Advanced+ badge in all the tests they do: "Real World Protection Test", "File Detection Test" and "Performance Test". Virus Bulletin did not test VIPRE's newest security products.
SummaryVIPRE Internet Security Pro is a security product that offers a good yet flawed antivirus engine. For starters, the web shield doesn't always protect you from dangerous websites. Then, the antivirus engine lets you stumble in the dark when removable drives are scanned, as it never tells you whether a scan was finished or if malware was found. And thirdly, the antivirus engine is slow at scanning for malware. On the other hand, it is pretty good at detecting and removing malware from your computer.
